Going out for a run or jog can be very daunting initially because of searching for the right pair of shoes is a daunting task. When we were kids, we had sneakers for activity, whether it was riding a bike, climbing a tree or playing basketball in the backyard.

Preferably, he should go for a curved shoe.

There are thousands of shoe shops and online stores, where you can buy shoes from. It is a generally known fact that only one shoe is made for you, one that gives you the perfect fit and support. You should try on as many different models and pairs as possible while not basing you decision solely on price or fashion. Always choose the shoes that you will feel comfortable in. Try avoiding the shoes that are designed to mimic barefoot running because there is no scientific evidence that these shoes decrease injury risk.

Always keep a watch on purchasing time because feet swell during day time as said by a former Olympic runner. Feet also swell during a run, and that’s the perfect time to try on new shoes as they’re bound to offer a comfortable fit.

Types of running shoes:

There are varied types of shoes with different brands available in the market.

  • Cushioning shoes provide shock absorption and arch side support. These shoes are good for neutral runners during off-pavement runs. Cushioning shoes are best for runners who are pronators.
  • Stability shoes are good for neutral runners who exhibit mild to moderate over pronation. They include a “post” in the midsole.
  • Motion control shoes provide stiffer heels or a design built on straighter lines to counter over pronation. These are best for runners who exhibit moderate to severe over pronation.

What are the ill-effects of choosing the wrong pair of shoes?

The wrong pair of shoes can cause a variety of problems such as corns and calluses, nerve damage, hammer toes and joint pains from the foot to the lower back. These are described as follows:

  • Athlete’s foot- If you choose the wrong pair of shoes then you may face itching, burning, pain, and scaling usually between the toes or on the sole of the foot, which is caused by fungi. This type of illness happens due to tight-fitting shoes.
  • Corns and calluses- If you buy shoes which are not the right size, then the likelihood of corns and calluses are pretty high. This is because the skin cells form round and kennel bumps called corns, which are usually found on top of or between the toes. Moreover, thick and flat calluses formed on the sole can also occur anywhere on the feet.
  • Heel pain- Heel pains are the normal ill effects of choosing the wrong pair of shoes. These pains cause inflammation and soreness in the plantar fascia ligament. The ligament runs between the heel and the ball of your foot, which results in plantar fasciitis. This illness usually comes with the first steps of the day or after long periods of inactivity.
  • Bunions- You may notice a lump on the side of your foot or at the base of your big toe, which may lead to bunions. They are caused when the base of the toe is pushed out of its normal position, resulting in a bulge on the side of the foot which can be painful and inflamed.
  • Blisters- If your shoes are too big or too small, the inner portion of the shoes keep rubbing against a sensitive spot on the feet, which creates a fluid-filled sac known as a blister. The skin underneath the blister is tender and makes blisters painful to walk. Blisters disappear on their own if you keep your feet clean and protected from further irritation, along with the perfect pair of shoes. Further, diabetic patients are at high risk of getting blisters, so it is very necessary for them to get the right pair of shoes.

Finally, a wrong pair of shoes definitely puts your feet at the risk of getting foot injuries and can impact your ability to move too. To avoid any pressure on your toes, you should opt for flats. Always look for comfort instead of design or style. Choose shoes that have a soft insole base, keeping in mind the endless you have to spend in them all day.
